Extremely Large Text:
The letters are simply HUGE!
Super High-Contrast Photos:
We digitally enhanced each image to create more contrast and visual clarity.
Highest Quality Printing:
Each book has extremely bright and bold high-resolution printed images on heavy-weight, museum quality paper.
Ergonomic Design:
The unique spiral binding allows the books to lay flat on a table or on the reader's lap. The books are large and very strong, yet remarkably light-weight for readers with arthritis or limited motor skills.
To meet the needs of our viewers, we had to digitally enhance the contrast and saturation levels for every photo and image, as well as alter individual "channels" of color. For example, we might go into a photograph and change the characteristics of only the yellow channel, thereby affecting exactly how the ink is applied at the press. This approach is one of the reasons our books are so unique.
We also realized that any given reader might have a myriad of visual impairments. To compound this challenge, the initial experience of the reader may change over several months or years as their unique vision problem evolves or degrades. In short, we made our letters extremely large and therefore very legible. Additionally, we chose typefaces that are very easy to read and set the type with proper spacing for clarity and legibility.
Finally, we contacted printers around the world before finally settling on a specialty book printer in Wisconsin. This printer specializes in highly accurate, individual sheet-fed printing and specialty bindery. Our books are super strong, super clear and extremely easy to use creating the ultimate gift for an elderly relative or friend. We feel they work because the content is based on subjects that reflect what many elderly people have stored in their long-term memory. This is particularly important for those suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease. So, although many elderly people have memories of the great depression, it is the Hymns they studied as children which are most likely able to be tapped by these books.
